SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball lost to Drury University, 76-57, Saturday afternoon in its regular-season finale.
Despite the loss, the Screaming Eagles (16-11, 10-9 GLVC) will enter the GLVC Tournament as a wild card and the fourth seed from the West Division.
The Eagles held their ground with the Panthers for a better part of the first half. However, the Panthers used an 8-0 run toward the end of the half to turn a 22-21 edge into a nine-point advantage late in the opening period.
Drury (20-7, 14-5 GLVC), which led 32-24 at the break, never allowed the Eagles any closer than six points during the second half as it went on to the win and sole possession of the GLVC West Division title.
After falling behind by 16, the Eagles used a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to nine points with five minutes to play. The Panthers, however, clamped down and held the Eagles scoreless throughout the final five minutes of the game to seal the victory.
