Eagles add 6'2" forward/center
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team announced that 6'2" junior forward/center Ninette Evans (Memphis, Tennessee) has signed a national letter of intent to play for Head Coach Rick Stein's Screaming Eagles in 2006-07. Ninette is the fifth player to sign with the Eagles this spring and the eighth since the early signing period.
Evans transfers from Northwest-Shoals Community College (Muscle Shoals, Alabama) where she averaged 5.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in her first two seasons of collegiate basketball.
In 2006-07, Evans shot 62.2 percent from the field and averaged 5.6 points per contest, while pulling down 5.6 rebounds per contest. She recorded 5.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2005-06.
Prior to attending NWSCC, Evans played her prep ball at Trezevant High School in Memphis, Tennessee.
"Ninette will make an immediate impact in our frontcourt, especially on the defensive end," Stein said. "She is a strong rebounder and will bring physical play to our inside game on both ends of the floor."
Evans joins 5'5" junior guard Jessoni Plese (Wilmington, Illinois), 5'8" junior guard Brittany Darden (Guthrie, Kentucky), 5'9" junior guard Carly Clendenen (Anderson, Indiana), and 6'2"freshman forward/center Leigha Thompson (Teutopolis, Illinois) on Stein's list of spring signings.
USI's early signees include 5'10" freshman guard Lauren Meneghetti (Munster, Indiana), 5'6" freshman guard Amie Newhart (Mulberry, Indiana), and 6'0" freshman forward/center Courtney Perry (Crown Point, Indiana). Both Meneghetti and Newhart were invited to Hoosier Basketball Magazine's 2007 Top 40 Senior Workout.
