Eagles open exhibition season at Notre Dame

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team announced its 2007-08 schedule today.
Headlining the Screaming Eagles' schedule is an exhibition game with the University of Notre Dame on November 1. USI also plays two games in the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout in Nassau, Bahamas, December 19-20.
USI's exhibition with Notre Dame marks the second straight season that the Eagles have played a Division I opponent during the exhibition season and the fourth time since 1992. USI defeated Morehead State University, 75-74, during the exhibition season a year ago.
The Eagles, who are looking for their second consecutive trip to the GLVC Tournament, open the regular season with three straight home games, including a rematch of last season's opener against the University of Central Missouri. In all, the Eagles will play 16 games in the friendly confines of the Physical Activities Center.
USI, which was 16-12 overall and 10-9 in the GLVC a year ago, plays five non-conference home games including bouts with Division II foes Tusculum University, Central State University, and Saginaw Valley State University.
Following the three straight home games to open the regular season, the Eagles begin GLVC play with a trip to the Sportscenter in Owensboro, Kentucky, to take on long-time rival Kentucky Wesleyan College.
KWC represents USI's only conference game prior to the holiday break. The Eagles resume GLVC play with road games at the University of Missouri-St. Louis on January 3 and Missouri University S&T (formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla as of January 1, 2008) on January 5.
The Eagles' first conference home game is January 10 when they take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Defending GLVC champion Lewis University enters the PAC January 12 before the Eagles take back to the road with games at GLVC East Division rivals Northern Kentucky University and Bellarmine University.
Home games against GLVC West Division rivals Quincy University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville as well as a trip to defending NCAA II Great Lakes Region champion Drury University wrap up the month of January while a trip to Rockhurst University opens the month of February.
USI wraps up GLVC East Division play as it begins a four-game home stand against Saint Joseph's College and the University of Indianapolis. USI's contest with Indianapolis February 9 is Homecoming and marks the return of former USI standout and assistant coach LeAnn Freeland, who took over the head coaching duties for the Greyhounds in May.
Return engagements with Rockhurst and Drury February 14 and 16 mark the end of the four-game homestand, the longest such stretch of the season for the Eagles.
The Eagles conclude their road slate with trips to SIU Edwardsville and Quincy before finishing the season with home games against Missouri S&T February 28 and Missouri-St. Louis March 1. The contest with Missouri-St. Louis, now nicknamed the Tritons, is Senior Day for USI.
GLVC Tournament play, which returns to Roberts Stadium for the 10th straight season, starts March 6 with the championship game slated for March 9. The NCAA II Great Lakes Region Tournament is March 14-17 at the region's top seed, while the NCAA II Elite Eight is March 26-29 at the Health & Sports Center in Kearny, Nebraska.
