Eagles picked third in GLVC West Division

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the GLVC West Division in a vote by the league's coaches.
USI, which was 16-12 overall and 10-9 in the GLVC a year ago, received 25 points in the poll, eight behind second-place Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and nine behind top-vote getter Drury University. Drury picked up four first-place votes, while SIU Edwardsville received three first-place votes.
The University of Missouri-Rolla, which changes its name to Missouri Science & Technology on January 1, was picked fourth with 22 points, while Quincy University was fifth with 16 points.
Rockhurst University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis rounded out the West Division with 10 and seven points, respectively.
It was predicted the GLVC East Division will go to Bellarmine University, which received four first-place votes. Northern Kentucky University had and Kentucky Wesleyan each had a first place vote as they were picked to finish second and third, respectively.
The University of Indianapolis, under the direction of former USI All-American and assistant coach LeAnn Freeland, was slated for a fourth-place finish, while defending GLVC champion Lewis University was picked to finish fifth despite picking up a first-place vote. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Saint Joseph's College rounded out the GLVC East Division.
USI, which plays its sole exhibition contest November 1 against the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, will mix together four returning players with eight newcomers. Senior Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) leads the Eagles' returning player after averaging nearly 13 points per contest throughout the last two seasons.
