NASSAU, Bahamas—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team could not overcome a slow start as it fell to Tiffin University, 90-78, Wednesday evening at the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout.
USI (4-3), which entered the game as the GLVC leader in three-point defense, surrender nine trifectas in the first half alone as it fell into a 20-point deficit late in the opening period.
After cutting the margin to 15 points at the break (51-36), USI used a 13-2 run to open the second half and get to within four points with 14 minutes to play in the game.
Tiffin (5-8), however, used a 12-4 run to extend its lead to double-digits (65-53) with 11 minutes to play in the contest.
The Eagles got to with in six points on a couple occasions later in the game, but could not get any closer as the Dragons connected on 7-of-9 free throws in the final minute to secure the regional victory.
