Eagles return home for regional battle,
Host Saginaw Valley State Friday

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team returns to the Physical Activities Center when it hosts Great Lakes Region foe Saginaw Valley State University (Michigan) Friday at 7 p.m.
USI (5-3, 0-1 GLVC) is coming off a Bahamas Sunshine Shootout trip in which it went 1-1 including a 64-59 victory over Mt. Olive College (North Carolina). The Screaming Eagles lost to Tiffin University, 90-78, in their first game of the classic-style tournament.
Senior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) led the Eagles with 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, while freshman guard Amie Newhart (Mulberry, Indiana) chipped in 12.0 points and 4.0 assists per contest. Baines earned All-Tournament honors for her performance, which included a game-high 17 points against Mt. Olive.
For the season, Baines is third in the conference with a team-leading 19.9 points per contest. She is second on the team and 13th in the GLVC with 6.0 rebounds per outing.
Junior forward/center Brittany Neuman (Huntingburg, Indiana) is tied for fourth in the conference with 7.8 rebounds per game, including 9.3 rebounds in USI's last four contests.
Saginaw Valley State (4-5, 1-3 GLIAC) is coming off a 74-57 setback to No. 6 Drury University on December 18. The Cardinals have lost three of their last four games.
Senior guard Brittany Burns and senior forward LaTille Ross lead the Cardinals. Burns is averaging 15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, while Ross is averaging 14.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest.
Friday's contest marks the first time USI and Saginaw Valley State have met in women's basketball. It will be USI's final non-conference contest of the 2007-08 regular season as the Eagles return to GLVC play January 3 against the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
