2008 Schedule
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team announced that it will begin its 2008-09 schedule with an exhibition game against Indiana University in Assembly Hall November 1 in Bloomington, Indiana.
It marks the second straight year that the Screaming Eagles will open their season against a major NCAA Division I opponent from Indiana after opening last year's slate with an exhibition contest against the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
The exhibition contest is a primer to a schedule that features 15 home games for the Eagles. USI officially begins the 2008-09 slate November 15-16 when it takes part in a classic-style tournament in Austin, Texas.
USI opens its home schedule November 22 when it hosts Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Edinboro University. After a battle with Midwest Region foe Hillsdale College (November 28) in the Indianapolis Classic, the Eagles open GLVC play December 4 when they visit Lewis University.
The Eagles begin their longest homestand of the season December 20 against the University of Illinois-Springfield. The six-game home stretch includes the Eagles' GLVC home-opener against the East Division's Saint Joseph's College (January 2) as well as a visit from the University of Indianapolis, which is under the direction of GLVC and USI Hall of Fame member LeAnn Freeland.
Defending national champion Northern Kentucky University visits the Physical Activities Center for the first time in two years January 8 to conclude USI's six-game homestand.
USI wraps up its GLVC East Division slate with a trip to Bellarmine University January 10 and a home game against rival Kentucky Wesleyan College January 15.
The Eagles begin GLVC West Division play a week later when they host the University of Missouri-St. Louis. They finish the three-game homestand with Rockhurst University January 24.
USI travels to Springfield, Missouri, January 22 to take on defending conference champion Drury University. They visit 2008 NCAA II Tournament participant Missouri University of Science and Technology January 31 before facing another 2008 NCAA II Tournament participant in Quincy University February 5 at the PAC.
USI's contest against Quincy is the first of a three-game homestand that features a return bout with Drury (February 7) and a non-conference contest against Lake Erie College (February 11).
The Eagles finish the season with three of their final four contests on the road. Return engagements at Quincy (February 14) and Missouri-St. Louis (February 19) start the final three weeks of the season, while the Eagles host Missouri S&T February 21 to close out their home schedule.
USI completes its 2008-09 regular-season slate with a trip to Kansas City, Missouri, February 28 to take on Rockhurst. GLVC Tournament play begins March 3 with first round games slated to be played on campus sites. The final four of the GLVC Tournament is March 7-8 at a site to be determined.
The NCAA II Midwest Region Tournament, formerly the Great Lakes Region, is March 13-16, while the NCAA II Elite Eight is March 25-28 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
