USI picked fourth in GLVC West
Complete GLVC release on preseason poll
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the GLVC West Division in a vote by the league's coaches.
USI, which was 10-17 overall and 5-14 in the GLVC a year ago, received 13 votes in the poll, 10 behind top-vote getter Drury University. Drury received three first place votes and 23 points, while Quincy University received two first place votes, and 20 overall votes for second place.
Missouri University of Science & Technology was picked third with 19 votes and one first place vote. University of Missouri-St. Louis and Rockhurst University rounded out the West Division with 10 and five votes, respectively.
The top spot in the GLVC East goes to reigning NCAA Division II national champion Northern Kentucky, which received six first place votes. The University of Indianapolis was second with one first place vote and 31 votes overall, while perennial powerhouses Bellarmine University and Lewis University were picked third and fourth. Rounding out the East are University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Kentucky Wesleyan College, and Saint Joseph's College.
USI, which plays its only exhibition game November 1 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, will combine six newcomers with six returning players. Sophomore guard Amie Newhart (Mulberry, Indiana) leads the Eagles' returning players after averaging nearly 10 points per contest last season.
