Eagles ring in New Year with win

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—All 10 of the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball players in uniform scored and four players reached double figures as the Screaming Eagles opened 2009 with a dominating 78-56 victory over Saint Joseph's College Friday evening at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (8-4, 1-2 GLVC), which has won four straight, opened the game with seven straight points to set the tone for the contest.
The Eagles stretched their advantage to 10 points with a 6-0 run midway through the opening period; then put the game on ice in the final six minutes of the first half as they closed the opening period with a 14-4 run to take a commanding 43-23 lead into the intermission.
As a team, the Eagles shot 56.7 percent in the first half and held the Pumas (0-11, 0-3 GLVC) to just eight field goals.
USI, which is undefeated in six games at the PAC this season, extended its lead to as many as 26 points in the final period before settling on the 22-point victory.
