KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team struggled to find any type of rhythm as it fell to Rockhurst University, 70-59, Saturday afternoon in its regular-season finale.
Coupled with Missouri University of Science and Technology's victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday evening, the loss brings the 2008-09 season to a close for the Screaming Eagles.
USI (14-13, 6-11 GLVC) started strong, grabbing a 10-7 lead in the first four minutes of the game, but a 13-4 Rockhurst run that lasted more than six minutes allowed the Hawks to take control of the contest.
The Eagles struggled on the offensive end, making just three field goals in the final 10 minutes of the opening period as they went into the locker room facing a 27-21 halftime deficit.
Rockhurst (11-18, 4-13 GLVC) extended its lead to double digits in the opening stages of the second half as it went on a 6-0 run to build a 33-21 advantage with less than 19 minutes to play in the game.
The Hawks extended their lead to as many as 17 at one point in the final period and never let the Eagles get any closer than eight as they handed USI's its third straight set back.
