Young nets All-GLVC honors
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana women's basketball sophomore guard Ellen Young (Salem, Illinois) was named third-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Thursday evening in a vote by the league's head coaches.
Young led the Screaming Eagles and was 12th in the GLVC with 13.1 points per contest. She also averaged 13.3 points per appearance in conference-only games.
In 2008-09, Young reached the double-digit mark in the scoring column 18 times and scored 20 or more points in four contests. She had a season-high 22 points in the Eagles' double-overtime victory over Drury University last month.
In addition to her scoring efforts, Young averaged 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per outing. She had a pair of double-doubles, recording a season-best 12 rebounds in USI's win over Truman State University in December.
USI finished the season with a 14-13 mark and went 6-11 in conference play. The Eagles finished fourth in the GLVC West Division, missing the league's post-season tournament by a game.
Quincy University senior guard Jessica Keller was named the GLVC Player of the Year, while Quincy's J.D. Gravina was selected by his peers as the GLVC Coach of the Year. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Jadee Rooney was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year.
