USI women's basketball picked
to finish 1st by GLVC coaches
The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team is picked to finish first in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in vote by the league coaches. The Screaming Eagles received 95 points and six first place votes.
Northern Kentucky University was second with 93 points and four first place votes. Bellarmine University was third with 83 points and received the final first place vote.
The Eagles are coming off a 28-4 overall record and a 17-3 GLVC record in 2000-01. USI won a share of the GLVC regular season crown with NKU and later defeated the Norse in the GLVC Tournament championship game at Roberts Stadium last March. The USI squad went on to win the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional before falling in the first round of the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
The Screaming Eagles will begin practice Sunday, October 14, with Midnight Madness at the Physical Activities Center with festivities beginning at 11 p.m. USI's normal practice time for the first semester is 4-6 p.m. daily.
