USI's Farmer wins mile at GLVC Championships,
Byrne earns All-GLVC in 5,000 meters
cFarmer qualified as a provisional for the NCAA Division II National Championship meet after running 5:00.49 in the event.
The USI women's team finished sixth overall at the meet while the men finished fifth.
On the men's side, sophomore distance runner Joey Byrne (Georgetown, Indiana) earned All-GLVC after finishing second in the 5,000 meter run. Byrne ran 15:21.57 in the event and scored eight points for the Eagles.
Byrne and sophomore distance runner Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) narrowly missed earning all-conference honors in the 3,000 meters and the mile run, respectively. Schwartz finished third in the mile after running a 4:21.73 while Byrne finished third in the 3,000 meters after running an 8:51.75.
Junior distance runner Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) was right on Byrne's heels in the 3,000 meters, finishing fourth with a time of 8:51.98.
The Eagles will open their outdoor season Friday, March 22, at the Washington University Mini-Meet in St. Louis, Missouri. The NCAA II Indoor National meet will take place Friday, March 8, through Saturday, March 9.
