USI women’s track and field/cross country signs high jumper
The University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field/cross country team announced that high jumper Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana) has signed a letter of intent for the 2002-03 track and field/cross country seasons. Boberg is the ninth athlete to sign with Head Coach Mike Hillyard’s Screaming Eagles this year.
A graduate of North Knox High School, Boberg earned eight varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. She was the 2000 Outstanding Female Athlete and NKHS’s MVP in 2001.
As a junior in 2001, Boberg won the sectional and regional championships and finished ninth at the IHSAA State Championships. She also earned All-Blue Chip Conference honors as a junior.
In 2002, Boberg won the sectional championship and the regional championship, setting record marks at both meets. Her 5’10” jump at the regional championships was good enough to rank her first in the state of Indiana and 12th in the United States this spring.
Her efforts as a senior, once again, netted her All-Conference honors and a sixth-place finish at the IHSAA State Championships. Boberg, who holds the NKHS record with her 5’10” jump, also performed well at the Midwest Meet of Champions as she finished second in the high jump.
“Her record high jump performance at the Evansville regional meet this spring would have placed 2nd at the NCAA Division II national meet last month,” Hillyard explained. “I am sure that Abby also will help us out in other areas at the conference level as well.”
