Farmer places eighth at Cardinal Classic,
USI women's cross country places fifth men place third
University of Southern Indiana women’s cross country runner Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) ran a 5k time of 18:35.50 and placed eighth, out of 159 runners, to help lead the USI women’s cross country team to a fifth-place finish Saturday morning at the University of Louisville Cardinal Classic.
Freshman Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) helped the women’s squad with a 5k time of 18:49.90, placing her 18th in the field.
USI men’s cross country runner Joey Byrne (Georgetown, Indiana) ran an 8k time of 25:11.0 and finished first, out of 190 competitors. Byrne’s performance helped the USI men’s team place third out of 18 teams.
Junior Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) helped USI’s cause with a seventh-place showing. Thurner finished the 8k race with a time of 25:28.0
The Screaming Eagles will travel to Edwardsville, Illinois, Saturday, October 12, to compete in the Border Wars. It will be USI’s final tune-up before traveling to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to partake in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, Saturday, October 26.
