USI’s Cooksey earns GLVC freshman honors for second time
University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field performer Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference “Freshman of the Year” for women’s indoor track and field. It is the second time this year that Cooksey has been named GLVC “Freshman of the Year.” She earned the honor in cross country after finishing sixth at the GLVC Championships.
Cooksey finished first in the mile Saturday afternoon at the GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships and helped USI’s distance medley relay team to a first place finish. She ranks 15th in the nation in the mile with an adjusted time of 4:58.49. She will have to wait to see whether or not the time will hold up when the NCAA announces its final seedings for the NCAA II National Championships (March 14-15).
