USI’s Cooksey posts NCAA’s fastest 3,000 time,

A day after University of Southern Indiana senior women’s track and field runner Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) set the school record in the 3,000 meters freshman Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) bettered the record by running an NCAA Division II-best 9:41.37 in the 3,000 meters Saturday at the Indy Relays in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Cooksey, who just missed the NCAA automatic qualifying time of 9:40.00 with her first-place finish, posted a provisional qualifying time in her second event this spring. She also posted an NCAA II provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters.
Freshman high jumper Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana) also posted a provisional qualifying time with her first jump of the outdoor season. Boberg, who earned All-America honors during the indoor season, leaped to a tie for first-place with a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches.
The Screaming Eagles will return to action this Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, at the Hillsdale Gina Relays.

Thurner qualifies for nationals with steeplechase win
University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field runner Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) and men’s track and field runner Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) each recorded NCAA II provisional qualifying times Friday night at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee. Farmer’s performance helped the women finish 11th, out of 17 teams, while Thurner’s run helped the men’s squad finish 10th out of 19 teams. (more)
