USI’s Cooksey ranks first,
Farmer fourth in 3,000 meters
Coming off their record-setting weekend in the 3,000 meters, University of Southern Indiana track and field runners Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) and Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) are ranked first and fourth, respectively, in the country.
Cooksey, a freshman, has the NCAA Division II’s top 3,000-meter time (9:41.37) by more than four seconds over the second-fastest time. In addition to her 3,000-meter standing, Cooksey is ranked ninth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:10.75.
Farmer, a senior in outdoor track, has a top 3,000-meter time of 9:50.03 and also is ranked 22nd in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:39.23.
In addition to Farmer and Cooksey, freshman high jumper Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana) is tied for sixth with her 5 foot, six inch jump at the Indy Relays this past weekend.
From the men’s squad, junior Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) is ranked fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:10.11) while junior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) and sophomore Will Siemers (Bensenville, Illinois) are ranked 14th and 19th, respectively, in the 5,000 meters.
