Eagles sending four to nationals
The University of Southern Indiana track and field team will send four competitors to the NCAA II Outdoor Track and Field Championships next Thursday and Saturday, May 22-24, in Edwardsville, Illinois.
Three competitors from the women’s squad—senior Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana), freshman Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana), and freshman Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana)—will participate at this season’s national championships.
Both Cooksey and Farmer will compete in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Cooksey ranks second, nationally, in both events while Farmer ranks fifth in the 3,000 and 15th in the 5,000. Boberg’s mark of 5 feet, 7 ¼ inches ranks sixth, nationally, in the high jump.
Junior Mark Thurner (Hebron, Indiana) will represent the USI men’s squad in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at nationals. Thurner ranks eighth, nationally, with a time of 9:10.11.
