USI women’s cross country advances to nationals

The University of Southern Indiana women’s cross country team finished third Saturday at the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Championships in Allendale, Michigan. Their performance lifts the Screaming Eagles to the NCAA II National Championships in Cary, North Carolina.
Senior Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) and sophomore Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, as the women’s squad advanced for the second straight season. Farmer finished the 6k course in 22:10.2, while Cooksey was on Farmers’ heals, finishing the race in 22:11.1. Both earned All-Region honors.
Junior Casey Schneider (New Salisbury, Indiana) joined Cooksey and Farmer on the All-Region team as she finished 11th with a 6k time of 22:28.0.
Host Grand Valley State University took home the team championship, while GVSU’s Natalie Ewing won the individual title.
The Eagles will compete in the NCAA II National Championships Saturday, November 22.
