USI women’s track and field to compete at IU
The University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field team has made a late addition to its 2004 indoor schedule. The Screaming Eagles will send a small group to compete at the Hoosier Hills Invitational Friday, February 20, in Bloomington, Indiana.
USI is looking to solidify some of its NCAA II provisional qualifying marks as well as have some of its other competitors meet provisional standards.
Included in the group the eight Eagles are sending to Bloomington are sophomores Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) and Abby Boberg (Princeton, Indiana) as well as freshman Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana).
Cooksey will attempt to keep her streak of five consecutive first-place finishes alive as she competes in the mile, an event she has already set a solid NCAA II provisional time in (4:59.26). Boberg is looking to improve upon her season-best leap of five feet, 6 ½ inches in the high jump, a mark that ranks 10th in the country.
Perry, who also has met the provisional standards in the long jump, will be looking to get a solidifying mark after recording an 18 foot, 5 ¼ inch jump two weeks ago in Greencastle, Indiana. Like Cooksey, Perry is undefeated in three meets this season.
The USI men’s squad as well as the members of the women’s squad will be in action Saturday, February 21, as they compete in the DePauw Classic in Greencastle.
