Eagles grab five titles at GLVC Outdoor Championships,
Men finish fifth/Women finish sixth

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.óThe University of Southern Indiana menís and womenís track and field teams took home five titles and had six competitors earn a total of seven All-GLVC awards at the GLVC Outdoor Championships Thursday and Friday. The Screaming Eaglesí menís squad finished fifth with a total of 60 points, while the womenís squad finished sixth with a total of 68 points.

Junior Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) and senior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) led the menís squad. Davis finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and second in the 800 meters, while Schwartz finished first in the 5,000 meters and third in the 1,500 meters.

Davis and Schwartz earned All-GLVC honors for their first-place performances, while Davis also earned All-GLVC honors in the 800 meters.

Sophomore Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) led the womenís squad with a school and conference-record in the 3,000 meters. Cooksey met an NCAA II automatic qualifying standard with her first-place time of nine minutes, 33.71 seconds.

Sophomore Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana) and freshman Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana) also recorded first-place finishes. Boberg won the high jump with a mark of five feet, 5 Ĺ inches, while Perry won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 2 ľ inches. Both joined Cooksey in earning All-GLVC honors.

Freshman Natalie Clark (Newburgh, Indiana) became USIís first sprinter to earn All-GLVC honors and meet an NCAA II provisional qualifying standard. Clark finished second in the 400 meters with a school-record time of 56.25 seconds.

The Eagles will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships May 27-29 in Walnut, California. Competitors that have met provisional qualifying standards include Davis (steeplechase/800 meters), Schwartz (5,000/1,500 meters), Cooksey (800/1,500/3,000/5,000 meters), Boberg (high jump), Perry (long jump), and Clark (400 meters).

Those six competitors will find out their fate when the final declarations are made next week.
