Cooksey wins 5,000 meters at IU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Junior Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) won the women’s 5,000 meters at the Hoosier Relays Saturday. Cooksey’s time of 17 minutes, 13.37 seconds is an NCAA II provisional qualifying time and is the second fastest time in Division II this season. It also is an indoor school-record.
Sophomore Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana) also competed Saturday, posting a fourth-place finish in the women’s long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 9.75 inches.
The men’s 4x800-meter relay team finished third Saturday, recording a time of eight minutes, 10.18 seconds, while freshman Scott Forbey (Washington, Indiana) was 16th in the men’s high jump with a school-record mark of six feet, two inches.
Freshman Ian Snodgrass (Delta, Indiana) scratched in the finals of the men’s long jump Saturday after leaping to a school-record jump of 22 feet, 6.5 inches in the preliminaries on Friday.
The Screaming Eagles will compete at the McDonald’s Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois February 4-5.
