Schwartz, Davis finish one-two in 3,000
USI men finish seventh, women 11th
Results
CARBONDALE, Ill.—Senior Doug Schwartz (Centralia, Illinois) and junior Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) finished first and second, respectively, in the 3,000 meters to lead the University of Southern Indiana men’s track and field team to a seventh-place finish Saturday at the McDonald’s Invitational.
Senior David Tyler (Evansville, Indiana) and freshman Doug Higgins (Indianapolis, Indiana) finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 5,000 meters, while freshman Scott Forbey (Washington, Indiana) finished fourth in the pole vault. Their performances helped the USI men round up a total of 45 points during the two-day meet.
Junior Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) and sophomore Jennifer Finch (Warsaw, Indiana) led the women’s squad with a pair of third-place performances. Cooksey posted an NCAA II provisional qualifying time in the 800 meters, finishing the race in a USI indoor school-record two minutes, 14.04 seconds, while Finch was third in the 5,000 meters.
Senior Cassie Bartelt (Huntingburg, Indiana) and freshman Stephanie Schilling (Moores Hill, Indiana) finished fourth and fifth, respectively in the 5,000 meters as the USI women finished 11th with 21 points.
The Screaming Eagles will return to action Saturday when they send a split squad to Greencastle, Indiana, to compete in the DePauw Invitational. USI will send another split squad to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to compete in the Arkansas Tyson Foods Invitational.
