Cooksey to run in televised meet
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Junior All-American Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) will get a chance to run in a nationally-televised meet Friday night when she competes at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Cooksey, who ranks fourth in the NCAA Division II 800 meters as well as fifth in both the mile and 5,000 meters, will compete in the mile at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Friday’s action will be replayed Saturday night on ESPN 2 from 8-9:30 p.m. (CST). The Tyson Invitational is considered one of the most prestigious meets of the indoor season and is held at the Randal Tyson Track Center. It is part of the VISA Championship Series and has athletes, both collegiate and professional, from around the world.
On Saturday, sophomore All-American Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana) as well as USI’s men’s and women’s Distance Medley Relay (DMR) teams will be in action at the Tyson Invitational. Perry ranks second in Division II in the long jump, while the women’s DMR ranks sixth and the men’s DMR ranks 16th.
USI also will send a squad to Greencastle, Indiana, to compete in the DePauw Invitational on Saturday.
