Women's track and field sending five to nationals

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women’s track and field team is sending five competitors to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships May 26-28. The Screaming Eagles will depart for Abilene, Texas, the host site of this year’s championships, on Tuesday.
Junior Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana), an eight-time All-American, will get the opportunity to defend her national championship in the 3,000 meters as the top runner in the field with a qualifying time of nine minutes, 32.94 seconds. She also will compete in the 5,000 meters where is ranked fourth in the field with a time of 16 minutes, 32.97 seconds.
Senior Crystal Stock (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) will join Cooksey in the 3,000 meters where she ranks fifth in the field with a time of nine minutes, 50.91 seconds, while sophomore Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where she ranks ninth with a time of 10 minutes, 54.51 seconds.
Junior Abby Boberg (Bicknell, Indiana) is making her third straight trip to the outdoor championships, while sophomore Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana) is making her second straight trip to the outdoor championships. Boberg ranks 15th in the high jump with a mark of five feet, 7.25 inches, while Perry ranks second in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, 4.50 inches.
The Eagles are looking for their third straight top-10 finish after placing seventh in 2004 and ninth in 2003. The top four teams take home team trophies.
