Cooksey finishes second in 5,000 meters,
Propels Eagles to third consecutive top-10 finish

ABILENE, Texas—University of Southern Indiana junior Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) picked up her 10th career All-America honor Saturday night as she finished second in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Cooksey finished the race in 16 minutes, 45.04 seconds to place second in the event for the third straight year. Her finished propelled the Screaming Eagles to their third consecutive top-10 finish at the national indoor meet. USI, which was ninth in 2003 and seventh a year ago, finished in a tie with Harding University for eighth in the team standings with 25 points. Lincoln University won the team title with 108 points.
Cooksey finished third in the 3,000 meters Friday night, while senior Crystal Stock (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) placed eighth in the same event. Sophomore Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana) won the national championship in the long jump Thursday evening.
