Cooksey wins again as Eagle squads finish ninth

CHICAGO, Ill.—Senior
Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) continued her winning ways Saturday as she won the 33rd annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Classic. Cooksey, who set a new school record with her 5k time of 17 minutes, nine seconds, defeated 274 competitors, most of whom were NCAA Division I runners.
Junior
Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) also finished 16th to help the Screaming Eagles' women's squad to a ninth-place finish in the 28-team competition.

USI's men were led by junior
Rey Alvarez (Danville, Indiana). Alvarez finished ninth with an 8k time of 24 minutes, 54 seconds. The Eagles, who also finished ninth out of 28 teams, got a strong performance from senior
Rob Garwood (Columbus, Indiana), who finished 56th with a time of 25 minutes, 51 seconds.
Fellow classmate
Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) was USI's second runner to cross the finish line. He finished 44th with an 8k time of 25 minutes, 36 seconds.
USI returns to action a week from today when it competes in the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois. The GLVC Championships are October 22 in Rensselaer, Indiana.
