Burgin earns GLVC honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior
Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) has been named the GLVC Female Runner of the Week for her notable performance Saturday at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago, Illinois.
Burgin, who is the fourth USI runner to earn the award this season, placed 16th overall in the Gold Division at the Invitational. Her 5k time of 18 minutes, 11 seconds was 17th fastest time out of a total of 584 competitors in the Gold and Maroon races.
With five GLVC women's teams in action at Loyola, Burgin was the number two GLVC performer on the day behind teammate
Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana), who was the individual champion in a time of 17 minutes, nine seconds. Cooksey has been named GLVC Female Runner of the Week twice this season, while men's runners
Rey Alvarez (Danville, Illinois) and
Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) also have garnered GLVC Runner of the Week honors.
The Screaming Eagles, ranked 11th in the latest Division II Coaches' Top 25 poll and third in the latest Great Lakes Region rankings, travel to Carbondale, Illinois, on Saturday to participate in the Saluki Invitational. The men's squad is ranked 14th in the latest Top 25 poll and fourth in the latest regional rankings.
