Cooksey runs away with title,
Schafer earns freshman honors as Eagles place second

RENSSELAER, Ind.—Senior
Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) ran away with her second straight conference title Saturday to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team to a second place finish at the GLVC Championships. Cooksey, who was named the GLVC Runner of the Year, finished the 6k course with a school-record time of 19 minutes, 54.78 seconds.
The Screaming Eagles, who were without their number two runner
Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana), finished with 54 points, just three points behind the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

USI had three runners in the top 10. Senior
Casey Schneider (New Salisbury, Indiana) was seventh with a time of 21 minutes, 40.02 seconds, while freshman
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) was 10th with a time of 21 minutes, 43.81 seconds. Cooksey, Schneider, and Shafer all earned All-GLVC honors for their performances, while Shafer was the GLVC Freshman of the Year, marking the third time in the last four years that a Screaming Eagle has earned the honor.
The Eagles will gear up for the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championships, which will be held November 5 in Big Rapids, Michigan. The Great Lakes Region will send its top four teams to the NCAA II Championships November 19 in Pomona, California.
