EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country/track and field squad announced that Lauren Crick (Evansville, Indiana) signed a national letter of intent during the early signing period to compete for Head Coach Mike Hillyard's Screaming Eagles next season.
Crick is a senior at Central High School where she has earned 13 varsity letters in cross country, track, basketball, and soccer.
A four-time All-Conference and All-City performer in cross country, Crick has qualified for semi-state each of the last four seasons. Crick also is a three-time All-Conference and three-time All-City selection in track.
As a freshman at CHS, Crick earned All-State honorable mention honors in cross country and won the Evansville City Championship in the 800 meters. She finished 12th in the 800 meters at the IHSAA Track and Field Championships after capturing the sectional and regional titles as a sophomore. Crick was the sectional champion in the 800 meters as a junior last spring.
The CHS cross country team won conference, sectional, and regional championships during Crick's sophomore year in 2003.
Academically, Crick brings an impressive resume to the Eagles. She is a three-time Academic All-City selection and has been a member of several student organizations, including the IHSAA Student Advisory Commission.
"We are excited to have a student-athlete of Lauren's character and caliber to join our program," Hillyard said. "As a three-sport athlete in high school, she has not had the opportunity to focus all of her training toward distance running. She is a ferocious competitor with a great deal of room to improve.
"Our entire team is excited about Lauren's decision, realizing that she will be a big part of our future success," Hillyard concluded.
