Eagles ink two All-State runners
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country/track and field team announced that freshmen Danielle Glick (Hemlock, Indiana) and Sarah Whiteman (Bloomington, Indiana) have signed national letters of intent to compete for Head Coach Mike Hillyard's Screaming Eagles in 2006-07.
Glick earned nine varsity letters in cross country, gymnastics, and track at Taylor High School in Kokomo, Indiana. She earned All-State honors in cross country three times and set school records in the 4k (15:07), 3,200 meters (11:26), and 1,600 meters (5:26).
She helped THS's track and field team to the Howard County championship as well as the Mid-Indiana Conference title and sectional championship. Glick won the cross country county title in 2004 and was a three-time All-County and two-time All-Conference performer.
On the track, Glick was a four-time regional qualifier in the 3,200 meters as well as a three-time regional qualifier in the 1,600 meters. Glick also won county and sectional titles in the 3,200 meters, the 1,600 meters, and the 3,200-meter relay. She won a conference title in the 3,200 meters in 2005 and was named to the All-County team three times, while being named the All-County MVP in 2005.
Whiteman graduated from Bloomington North High School where she earned eight varsity letters in cross country and track. Whiteman helped BNHS to a sectional and regional championship in cross country in 2004 as well as conference and sectional titles in track and field in 2004 and 2005.
A two-time All-State performer in cross country, Whiteman won the regional and city championship in 2005 and was BNHS's most valuable runner three times. She also earned All-Conference honors in cross country and set the 4k course record last fall at the Brown County Regional with her personal-best time of 14 minutes, 39 seconds.
On the track, Whiteman won a sectional title in the 3,200 meters in 2005 and won the Outstanding State Series Award. She posted personal-best times of 11 minutes, 42 seconds in the 3,200 meters five minutes, 28 seconds in the 1,600 meters and two minutes, 21 seconds in the 800 meters.
Whiteman was a three-time state qualifier in both cross country and track.
"Danielle and Sarah both have the potential to be top five performers for us this fall," Hillyard said. "Their addition rounds out what I believe to be the best recruiting class we have ever had here. They will both make an immediate and significant impact."
Glick and Whiteman join Lauren Crick (Evansville, Indiana), Samantha Eliason (Crawfordsville, Indiana), Leslee Getts (Corunna, Indiana), and Tiffney Whitley (Crossville, Illinois) on USI's list of signees for the 2006-07 campaign.
