USI women's cross country wins by going one, two, three
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team finished first in the USI Alumni Opener by taking the top three individual spots Friday evening at the USI Intramural Complex. USI sophomore Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) won as an individual by posting a 4k time of 13:59, nine seconds faster than senior Melissa Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana).
Burgin ran the course in 14:08, while USI senior Katy Simutis
(Mt. Vernon, Illinois) was third with a time of 14:13. The Eagles also captured sixth and seventh with sophomore Kathy Goebel
(Evansville, Indiana) and freshman Sarah Whiteman
(Bloomington, Indiana) completing the course in 14:54 and 14:59, respectively.
USI won the meet with 19 points, followed by Bellarmine University, 45 points Southeast Missouri State University, 73 and Kentucky Wesleyan College, 118 points.
The next race for the Eagles is Indiana Intercollegiate, which is being hosted by Indiana State University on September 15.
