EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana women's cross country sophomore
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) has been named the GLVC Runner of the Week in a vote by the league's cross country coaches. It is the first time that Shafer has earned the honor and the fifth time since the award's inception a year ago that a Screaming Eagle has been honored.
Shafer led the women's squad to the championship at the USI Alumni Opener last Friday with a first-place finish and a course-record 4k time of 13:59. The Eagles, who are ranked sixth in the first NCAA II Top 25 poll, recorded the top three finishes at the USI Alumni Opener.

Rey Alvarez |
USI's men also received a national ranking of 11th in the first NCAA Division II Top 25 poll after recording a first-place finish at the USI Alumni Opener. The men's team had three of the top 10 finishes, including senior
Rey Alvarez's (Danville, Illinois) third-place finish.
The Eagles were the highest ranked GLVC team in either poll. Lewis University (23rd) was the only other GLVC team in the men's poll, while the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (10th) and Bellarmine University (16th) were the only other GLVC squads in the women's poll.
USI returns to action September 15 when they take part in the Indiana Intercollegiate.
