Eagles finish ninth at Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The No. 8 University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team was finished ninth in the gold competition of the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday morning.

Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles with a 14th-place finish and 5k time of 18 minutes, 17.34 seconds. Senior
Katy Simutis (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) was 22nd with a 5k time of 18 minutes, 34.05 seconds, while fellow classmate
Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) finished 25th with a 5k time of 18 minutes, 35.80 seconds.
USI finished the gold competition with 265 points in the 31-team field. The Eagles also posted a 10th-place finish with 283 points in the 31-team blue competition. Freshman
Lacy Williams (Haubstadt, Indiana) led the Eagles' blue team with a 49th-place finish and a 5k time of 20 minutes, 53.74 seconds.
The Eagles return to action next Saturday when they compete in the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois. The GLVC Championships are October 21 in Edwardsville, Illinois.
