Women's cross country is second at Saluki Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team placed second in the Saluki Invitational Saturday morning in Carbondale, Illinois. The Screaming Eagles defeated seven NCAA Division I teams in the invitational.
USI, which had three of the top 10 finishers, had 56 points as a team. Southern Illinois University, the invitational host, took to the top spot with 50 points.
The Eagles top finisher was sophomore Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana), who placed second with a 5k time of 17:56.24. Shafer finished behind University of Missouri-Kansas City's Sara Hiller, who won the race with a time of 17:48.66.
Joining Shafer in the top 10 were seniors Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) and Katy Simutis (Mt. Vernon, Indiana). Burgin took fourth with a time of 18:18.12, while Simutis was fifth with a 5k time of 18:20.38.
The next action for the Eagles will be the GLVC Championships October 21 in Edwardsville, Illinois.
