EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana women's cross country sophomore runner
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) has been named the GLVC Women's Runner of the Week for the second time this season.
Shafer finished second overall at the Southern Illinois University Saluki Invitational this past Saturday. She completed the 5k course in 17 minutes, 56.24 seconds and helped the Screaming Eagles claim second place as a team in the nine-team event.
She also is the first GLVC runner to finish under the 18-minute mark in a 5k this season after finishing the course more than a minute faster than she did in 2005. Shafer was just eight seconds off the winning pace, set by Kansas City's Sara Hiller (17:48.66).
USI, ranked eighth in the nation, finished the meet with 56 points, just six behind SIU Carbondale for first place.
The Eagles are idle this weekend and return to action October 21 at the GLVC Championships in Edwardsville, Illinois.
