Eagles battle with UW-Parkside for league title
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The No. 7 University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team is looking to capture a conference title Saturday when it competes at the GLVC Championships in Edwardsville, Illinois. The 6k race is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
USI has its work cut out for it as its main competition, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, enters the meet as the fifth-ranked team in Division II. UW-Parkside has won two straight league titles after the Screaming Eagles capture the conference championship in 2003.
While the Eagles' trio of sophomore Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) and seniors Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) and Katy Simutis (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) gives USI a strong top three, the race at number four and five could decide the outcome of USI's battle with the Rangers for the league title.
USI and UW-Parkside have combined to win the last eight GLVC Championships.
