Shafer opens indoor season with provisional mark,
Finishes third in 5,000 meters at Kent State

KENT, Ohio—University of Southern Indiana sophomore
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) opened the indoor track and field season with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters at the Kent State University Golden Flash Gala Friday.
Shafer, who earned All-America honors in November with her 15th-place performance at the NCAA II Cross Country Championships, was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17 minutes, 23.53 seconds.
This past fall, Shafer earned GLVC Runner of the Year honors after winning the GLVC Championship in cross country.
Shafer will join the rest of the Screaming Eagles when they open the indoor season as a team at the Indiana Open II January 13 in Bloomington, Indiana.
