Eagles open indoor schedule
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team opens its 2007 indoor schedule Saturday at the Indiana Open II in Bloomington, Indiana.
USI is looking to build upon a fourth-place finish at last season's GLVC Championship
Leading the Screaming Eagles is sophomore distance runner Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) as well as senior distance runner Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) and senior high jumper Molly Gilland (Osgood, Indiana).
Shafer, who has already posted a provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters, is coming off an outstanding cross country campaign in which she won the GLVC championship and earned All-American honors.
Burgin was an All-Conference performer in the mile last season and was the GLVC champion in the outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Gilland earned All-GLVC honors in the high jump during the indoor season before winning the high jump at the GLVC Outdoor Championships.
Also look for sophomore Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) to make a big impact for the Eagles in 2007. Dixon was USI's top 800-meter runner during the indoor season a year ago when she finished third at the 2006 GLVC Indoor Championships.
The Eagles have seven meets during the indoor season prior to the GLVC Indoor Championships, which are schedule for February 24 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
