Shafer wins mile at Saluki Booster Invite

CARBONDALE, Ill.—University of Southern Indiana women's track and field sophomore
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) took first place in the mile Saturday at the Saluki Booster Invitational.
Shafer edged senior
Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) by less than half a second as she crossed the finish line in five minutes, 7.08 seconds. Burgin finished the event in five minutes, 7.50 seconds.
In all, the Screaming Eagles had four competitors record top-10 finishes. Sophomore
Kathy Goebel (Evansville, Indiana) finished seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10 minutes, 54.23 seconds, while sophomore
Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of two minutes, 21.68 seconds.
USI returns to action Friday and Saturday when it competes in the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana.
