USI Results (Day 1)
BOSTON, Mass.—The University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team posted a ninth-place finish in the distance medley relay (DMR) at the NCAA II Indoor Championships Friday evening at the Reggie Lewis Center.
USI finished the race in 12 minutes, 5.09 seconds and was less than half a second away from eighth-place, a spot which would have lifted all four members of the squad to All-America status.
The Screaming Eagles' DMR was comprised of senior Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana), sophomores Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) and Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky), and freshman Lauren Crick (Evansville, Indiana).
Burgin also finished 12th in the prelims of the mile Friday evening. She was seventh in her heat with a time of five minutes, 01.42 seconds.
Shafer along with men's junior Paul Jellema (Dyer, Indiana) compete in the 5,000 meters Saturday evening. The women's race is slated to start at 4:48 p.m. (CST), while the men's race is slated for a 5:15 p.m. start.
