Eagles win four conference titles,
Finish seventh at GLVC Championships
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team won four individual titles and finished seventh at the GLVC Outdoor Championships this weekend.
Senior Missy Burgin
(Sellersburg, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles with first-place finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 3,000 meters, while sophomores Allison Shafer
(Plainville, Indiana) and Sarah Baysden
(Shelbyville, Indiana) took home titles in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, respectively.
Burgin collected a pair of All-GLVC awards for her performances, while Shafer and Baysden earned All-GLVC honors in both of their events.
As a team, the Eagles scored in eight different events and finished with 56.5 total points. USI scored 16 points in the steeplechase and 15 points in the 5,000 meters.
Including the four conference titles collected by Baysden, Burgin, and Shafer, USI had five top-five finishes. Sophomore Marcia Weflen
(Rossville, Indiana) rounded out the Eagles' list of top-five performers with a fourth-place finish in the steeplechase.
USI returns to action next weekend when it sends a limited squad to compete at a last-chance qualifying meet—either in Naperville, Illinois, or Nashville, Tennessee.
The NCAA II Outdoor Championships are May 24-26 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Both Burgin and Shafer are virtual locks to qualify for the NCAA II Outdoor Championships.
