Leimberger improved her previous provisional time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase by nearly 13 seconds as she finished the race in 10th place with a time of 11 minutes, 11.11 seconds. Shafer finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a season-best time of 17 minutes, 18.84 seconds.
While Shafer and senior
Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) are virtual locks to advance to the NCAA II Outdoor Championships, Leimberger is on the bubble as she sits 17th on the national performance list. If Leimberger makes the cut, it would mark the first time in her track career that she would advance to nationals.
The NCAA II Outdoor Championships are May 24-26 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
