Burgin earns All-America honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—University of Southern Indiana senior Missy Burgin (Sellersburg, Indiana) earned All-America honors after finishing third in the final of the 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday in the final day of the NCAA II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Burgin, who picked up her second career All-America honor, finished the race in 10 minutes, 45.80 seconds. It is the first outdoor All-America honor for Burgin, who earned All-America honors in the distance medley relay as a sophomore at the 2005 NCAA II Indoor Championships.

Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) finished 12th in the final of the 5,000 meters Saturday. Shafer, who earned All-America honors in the 10,000 meters Thursday night, finished the race in 18 minutes, 26.06 seconds. She ran a total of 20,000 meters in three days.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles finished in a tie for 24th with a total of 10 points. Burgin earned six points from the steeplechase, while Shafer tallied four points in the 10,000 meters.
