USI takes second in Stegemoller Classic

EVANSVILLE, Ind.. – The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team placed second in the 2007 Stegemoller Classic which it hosted Saturday evening at the USI Cross Country Cross. USI finished 21 points behind Southeast Missouri State University.
The Screaming Eagles were led by sophomore Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana), who was third overall with a 4k time of 14:33. Ballinger was followed by freshman Holly Bartelt (Huntingburg, Indiana), was cross the finish line in fifth place with a time of 14:56.
SEMO, who is coached by former USI cross country runner and assistant coach Mile Krieger, won the classic with the second, fourth, sixth, eighth, and ninth place runners. Rend Lake College's Pasca Cheruiyot won the individual title with a 4k time of 14:27, a pace of 5:49.
USI opened the 2007 campaign without junior Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana), who missed the race with an injury to her left foot.
The Eagles return to action September 14 in the Indiana Intercollegiates in Lafayette, Indiana. This year's intercollegiates are hosted by Purdue University.
