Eagles fall to 24th in Top 25 Poll
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team fell to 24th in latest USTFCCCA Top 25 Poll. The Screaming Eagles were ranked 21st in the preseason poll two weeks ago.
USI, which competes at the Indiana Intercollegiate Friday in West Lafayette, Indiana, remained fourth in the Great Lakes Region rankings.
The Eagles will have to find a way to deal with the losses of their top two returning runners in junior Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana) and senior Katy Simutis (Mt. Vernon, Indiana). Both have been lost for the season due to injury.
Look for sophomores Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) and Sarah Whiteman (Bloomington, Indiana) as well as junior Marcia Weflen (Rossville, Indiana) to pick up the slack. Ballinger was USI's top finisher at the season-opening Stegemoller Classic when she finished third, while Weflen and Whiteman were 12th and 17th, respectively.
In addition to USI, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside was the only other GLVC school in the poll, remaining at 10th.
