Eagles looking to return to NCAA II Championships
Meet Information
EVANSVILLE, Ind.— The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country team is looking to advance to nationals for the first time since 2005 when it competes at the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Championships Saturday in Edwardsville, Illinois. The women's 6k begins at 9:30 a.m., while the men's 10k is slated for a 10:30 a.m. start.
USI, which rose to 18th in the national poll, finished fourth a year ago at the regional meet, just three points away from a second straight trip to nationals.
The Screaming Eagles are coming off a second-place finish at the GLVC Championships two weeks ago. Sophomore Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) led the Eagles with a fourth-place finish at the league meet, while sophomore Sarah Whiteman (Bloomington, Indiana) was 11th.
USI, which is ranked fourth in the latest Great Lakes Region rankings, has advanced to nationals three times in the last five years.
This season, the top four teams from the NCAA II Great Lakes Region Championships will advance to the NCAA II Championships, which are November 17 in Joplin, Missouri. All individual competitors who finish in the top five overall places and are not a member of a qualifying team also will automatically advance to the NCAA II Championships.
