Cooksey debuts with strong 3,000-meter outing

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—Senior
Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) had a strong debut for the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team this weekend at the Gladstein Invitational.
Cooksey finished fourth in the 3,000-meter invitational with a time of nine minutes, 55.05 seconds, less than two seconds shy of the Screaming Eagles' indoor school record, which is currently held by junior
Allison Shafer (Plainville, Indiana).

Leslee Getts (Corunna, Indiana) joined Cooksey as a top-10 finisher this weekend as she placed seventh in the 3,000-meter open with a time of 10 minutes, 38.18 seconds.
As a team, the Eagles had four top-10 finishes, including junior
Stephanie Schilling's (Moores Hill, Indiana) 10th-place showing in the 5,000 meters and junior
Christy Dixon's (Owensboro, Kentucky) 10th-place finish in the mile.
The Eagles return to Bloomington, Indiana, February 1-2, to compete in the Indiana Relays.
