Cooksey posts automatic qualifier at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind.—Senior
Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) posted an NCAA II automatic qualifier in the 5,000 meters to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team Saturday at the DePauw Classic.
Cooksey finished first in the event with a meet-record time of 17 minutes, 5.5 seconds. She was nearly a minute faster than Austin Peay's Brooke Denny, who was second with a time of 18 minutes, 3.00 seconds.

As a team, the Screaming Eagles finished 12th in the 22-team field with 17 points. Junior
Christy Dixon (Owensboro, Kentucky) aided USI with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, while freshman
Allison Laird (Greenville, Indiana) was seventh in the 3,000 meters. Senior
Stephanie Schilling (Moores Hill, Indiana) rounded out the Eagles' top-10 finishers with a 10th-place showing in the 3,000 meters.
USI returns to action Friday when it competes at the Eastern Illinois University Friday Night Special in Charleston, Illinois. The Eagles compete at the GLVC Indoor Championships March 1 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
